Over the years, people have discovered all types of interesting home remedies for treating acne.  Through trial and error, we now have a laundry list of possibilities, which is great for people who prefer to avoid chemicals and traditional medicine.  Whether you are a teenager going through a tough period due to acne or an adult wondering why you still face unwanted acne, there is hope.

You may also be someone who has tried just about every product currently on the market but without success and now, you want to see if a natural remedy will work.  The best thing you can do for yourself is to start by learning all you can about acne and its cause.  The more information you arm yourself with the better you can battle the problem the right way.  For instance, eating a healthier diet, drinking more water, and perhaps better hygiene can all contribute to fewer and less severe outbreaks.

Unfortunately, most people will begin to experience acne during puberty.  At this time of life, the hormones are going crazy, causing too much sebum or oil in the sebaceous glands to be produced.  With this, the skin’s pores become clogged and dead cells cannot fall away as they should.  The result is the onset of acne and eventually, full blown breakouts.  The good news is that most people will start to outgrow acne in their early 20’s but some people go into adult years still experiencing problems.

While women can have severe acne, typically, a man is more likely to have serious problems than women are.  Even so, for the person with any acne, the problem is very real and needs to be addressed.  A number of products are available to help reduce the inflammation and redness caused by acne but you need to choose products carefully.  We see many products advertised to “cure” the problem when in fact they only make things worse.

For this reason, many people are going back to natural or home remedies.  As an example, apple cider vinegar can be used for treating the most common type of acne, known as acne vulgaris.  The reason is that apple cider vinegar works great to kill bacteria that causes acne.  In addition, apple cider vinegar balances the pH levels in the skin while helping to absorb the excessive oil being produced.

While we certainly recommend you try apple cider vinegar, another possible solution is baking soda.  This inexpensive ingredient works to exfoliate the skin.  With this, the dead skin cells are removed rather than becoming clogged in the pores.  In fact, a great solution is to make a paste of baking soda and apple cider vinegar, applying it to the affected area.  Gentle massage the paste in, allowing it to sit for about 20 minutes, followed by rinsing with warm water and then cool water to close off the clean pores.
